Jimi Hendrix Anniversary

Jimi Hendrix died 37 years ago today, at the age of 27.
Here's a very young Mick Jagger talking about him followed by Jimi himself doing Hey Joe

Across The Universe

There is something a little Forrest Gumpy about this trailer, Across The Universe features a bunch of "misfits" including a Hendrix-a-like and appropriately enough a Liverpudlian Dude named Jude. The soundtrack features reworking of 33 Beatles tracks and is littered with Beatles references.
And, as an added bonus it's even got Bono. The narrative is supposed to be a bit dull and twee but the musical arrangements and the set pieces are supposed to be fantastic.

Free Music From Moby

This week on Critical Junctions on Live Drive we are featuring Mobys Album Play.
The album is well known to most because of the humongous amount of licensing of tracks from the album for commercial use, so much so in fact that it had already made huge profits before going platinum.

While reading up on Moby I came across this on his website.
Basically he is offering up his music for free use by non profit organisations, student films and the like. And if you want to use it for profit making initiatives, you can get an easy license directly from him and the money is donated to the Humane society.

Log in, listen, choose, download, it's that simple!

Now, anyone that knows anything about making videos and movies knows that the soundtrack is a big deal. A good soundtrack HEAPS on production value.

I joined up, logged in, and the music available is amazing!

My mind is boggled with the possibilities....

5000 Web 2.0 apps in 333 secs

This is strangely hypnotic.

It's brought to you by simplespark, a place to "find and share" new web apps.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Shia La Beouf "leaked" the name of Indy 4 at the VMAs last night. Starring in the movie alongside Harrison Ford, he is rumoured to be playing Indys long lost son.

The movie is due for release in May 2008. Can't wait!

The VMAs etc

Britney Spears comeback bombed at the US MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas.

Kanye performed at the VMAs but in a suite, not like Britney, on the main stage , he's a bit peeved

Rolling Stone have a funny live blog which sums the VMAs up neatly.

They are also running a cover of the Kanye - 50 Cent face off (yawn) that everyone is hyping because they are both rappers and releasing an album on the same day. (My)
Interestingly they also have a video interview "Imagining the Future of Hip-Hop at the Rolling Stone Cover Shoot" which is mildly interesting but, in truth, they make more sense on their records. The Ticket on Friday had a good piece on the ongoing hip hop debate.

By the way, this weekend I bought Kanye Wests Graduation, it's not as good as Late Registration.

I'm giving Fiddys album a miss as I'm bored with him. (sorry Jim)
