The new MacBook

Hmmmm, my PowerBook G4 is still humming along nicely, running Leopard and handling whatever I throw at it, plus, although a little heavy, it's a neat 12", but at over 3 years old it's bound to cave in at some point. The new MacBook looks like it's more powerful even though it's consumer level. I'm going to have to do a bit of research, but what's the deal with no Firewire?

Tuesday Miscellany

I went up the Sugarloaf yesterday, Monkey took some shots to prove it on the iPhone.

I don't think you can tell how windy it was in these photos, but what you can see are my amazing Electric Picnic '07 gaiters, which, thankfully I didn't need at the time. I'm glad they eventually got an outing,

Speaking of the Electric Picnic, according to Ticketmaster tickets go on sale on Friday for €240, a big wedge of cash to lay down considering the Line Up isn't being released until the following Wednesday. Keep your eye on their psychedelic website for details.
There is an internet presale of the tickets from tomorrow morning so if you're dedicated to going, you can get in there ahead of the posse.

Being the mac fiend that I am, I got an iPhone, and mostly I am loving it but I'm kind of suprised it doesn't support MMS, I hadn't realised how often I sent and recieved photos until I couldn't. Pretty much everything else about it is perfect though.

I am now up to West Wing 4 in my DVD box set binge, it's all becoming a bit of a blur.

The Desktop

Rapture Ponies started this and Rick has followed suit, so in the spirit of copying people, this is my current desktop. I am about to switch to Leopard so no doubt it will change soon.
The Picture is of Astronaut Thomas. P. Stafford, with the NASA mascot Snoopy, taken prior to the Apollo 10 Mission in May 1969. On that particular mission the Command Module was called "Charlie Brown" and the Lunar Module was called "Snoopy"
I know it's a little nerdy but could care less.

"I've never knowingly slept with a Windows user..."

This is the trailer for the upcoming fan boy doc, MacHeads The Movie. I'm already hooked, it looks hilarious, and just a little creepy.

Mac Expo - yes, I care.

Last year Steve Jobs set hearts a fluttter with the launch of the iPhone at the Mac Expo, it's unlikely there will be anything as "big" this year, though from this teaser I'm guessing something wireless will be part of the "just one more thing" keynote tomorrow. Macworld will be live blogging here.
Apparently there are whispers of a new ultralight laptop, as my PowerBook is getting on in tech years (1 tech year = roughly 40 human years I reckon) I like the sound of that.

Steve gives a little back to the fans

Hot on the tails of the launch of yet more iPods, a video nano, a 120 gb "classic" and a touch screen iPod that is basically an iPhone without the phone, Apple have announced that they are dropping the price of the iPhone by $200. This, obviously has upset some people. Everyone is used to the price of technology going down, but for it to happen so fast is a bit of a burn.
Don't Panic
After reading every single frustrated email from customers sent in to Apple, CEO Steve Jobs has written an open letter to iPhone owners promising each and every one $100 back!
Granted, this will probably take the shape of an Apple Store voucher so they can console themselves with a shiny new shuffle, but the sentiment is not bad, as long as it doesn't come in a box.

The nano ad features Feist track 1234 and is actually kinda cool!

The iBill

As they say on youtube this is 4real, the bill, by the way, was about $274 but most of that was new customer charges, activation fees taxes etc........ The problem seems to be that AT&T detail every single thing......ouch
