Check out the queue for job interviews for the Londis chain in Dublin yesterday. 100 jobs advertised, 2000 people turned up. That's a 1 in 20 chance of getting a job so I guess the odds aren't that terrible.

The moon over The Four Courts

I took this picture this morning on my way in to work, I couldn't believe the moon was so fat and so low, it's a pity I only had my shi**y iPhone camera for the shot.

Lost in Dublin

Snapped these in Donnybrook at the weekend, they've been there a while. They're the work of Dublin street artist Asbestos, parts of his Lost Series. 

Take away lunch from AYA

After this mornings breakfast meeting that ended without a breakfast, I had to do a few bits and pieces in town. It was lunchtime and I was hungry, and I didn't have much time to queue or sit in some place. Normally I bring my own lunch in, but not on fridays, because I have breakfast out.
A sandwich is the obvious answer but I'm low-to-no wheat at the moment so I got a take away from the new hot food counter at Aya behind Brown Thomas. This is such a good deal! They have four different hot dishes ready to go with rice and it's €6 for a meal, or, if there are 2 of you, €11 for two. I had the thai curry and it was delicious, plus it's more like a dinner. I don't usually consider Aya to be good value, but this is a recession busting deal.

€6 is £3.93 in old money, these are 1990's prices folks!

Someone told me that since the current turmoil in global stock markets had kicked off we had lost 10 years in economic progress, it had simply been wiped out. If that's not a reason to start talking in punts I don't know what is.

I ate my lunch in the park behind Dublin Castle, beside the Chester Beatty. The only people who ever take the time to enjoy this park are tourists, which is a real shame.

Managed to catch the Roskilde bound Sea Stallion on it's way out of Dublin Bay, on Sunday.

It's Alive Inside

I've always loved this particular guiness building on James St. Any time I've passed the shutter door has been closed and I presumed it was some sort of Entrance for carts or trucks. Going past today the shutter was open and it turns out it really is alive inside.

It's some sort of pump house I guess.

My Left Foot

I'm hobbling around on crutches at the moment due to an unfortunate interaction between my foot and some gravelly road. You don't know what you got until it's gone, as Pete Setera might say, I am sorely missing full use of my left foot.

I am supposed to be going to Art Basel next week so it is possibly an injury of disastrous proportions unless I can get better faster stronger, so I am following the proscribed RICE with dicipline.
That's Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation, for those of you who might suffer my soft tissue damage fate.

You are beautiful - Update

Last year I posted a photo of this piece of graffiti, and walking past it today I noticed that it had been updated. What surprises me most is the fact that in the intervening 6 months the original stencil was neither vandalised or removed!



These little stencil men are everywhere at the moment.

Swan in the Park

This Swan has built a pretty amazing nest on one of the little islands in the pond in Herbert park. I'll be keeping my eye out for ugly ducklings in the near future, apparently it takes about 5-6 weeks from when they are laid.



I remember a few years a swan nested right beside the footpath on the grand canal somewhere near Leeson St and people had to keep an eye on it incase some nutter attacked it, but I can't find any info about it anywhere.....

New Bikes!

Just in time for the longer evenings, our new bikes arrived! Mine is the yellow one, (it's actually a yellow mainframe with black extremities) I will no doubt be posting about it's many adventures in the future!

Tuesday Miscellany

I went up the Sugarloaf yesterday, Monkey took some shots to prove it on the iPhone.


I don't think you can tell how windy it was in these photos, but what you can see are my amazing Electric Picnic '07 gaiters, which, thankfully I didn't need at the time. I'm glad they eventually got an outing,

Speaking of the Electric Picnic, according to Ticketmaster tickets go on sale on Friday for €240, a big wedge of cash to lay down considering the Line Up isn't being released until the following Wednesday. Keep your eye on their psychedelic website for details. 

There is an internet presale of the tickets from tomorrow morning so if you're dedicated to going, you can get in there ahead of the posse.

Being the mac fiend that I am, I got an iPhone, and mostly I am loving it but I'm kind of suprised it doesn't support MMS, I hadn't realised how often I sent and recieved photos until I couldn't. Pretty much everything else about it is perfect though.

I am now up to West Wing 4 in my DVD box set binge, it's all becoming a bit of a blur.
