John Hughes RIP

John Hughes died yesterday at 59 years old.
I'm a big fan of his films, especially The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueiller, and Planes Trains and Automobiles.
She's Having A Baby is a particular favourite. It's not one of his better known films but it's worth checking out for all the cameos - Kevin Bacon hails a cab and the cabbie is Steve Martin! I love it's classic sob-fest sequence near the end where the baby is being born and Kate Bush's track This Woman's Work is playing underneath.

Here's a little montage of some of his films.

Arthur's Day

Guinness is Celebrating its 250th birthday and in the process they're having their inaugural Arthur's Day on the 24th September.

Tom Jones, Estelle and possibly the Black Eyed Peas are going to be playing at James Gate and loads of bands will be playing in local pubs around dublin.

From what I can figure you can only buy tickets per venue, without knowing who's actually going to be playing.

There is a pretty extensive line up of acts, with something for all tastes including David Holmes, Soul II Soul, The Kooks and Jamie Callum

Their website is unfortunately an epic fail and takes aeons to load, so I got bored and gave up looking.

The GAZE Commercial

Here's an ad I just directed for the Dublin Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. We shot it in The Lighthouse last week. John McEvoy and I came up with the concept based on their theme this year "Be Moved". Warrior Films produced it and it will be on TV next week!!! Also (even better) it will be projected on the big screen in the lighthouse for the next few weeks.

Electric Picnic Line Up 2009

Let me be the first to piss and moan about the poverty of imagination in this years Electric Picnic Line up - manna for nerdy boys and their 'I want you to think I'm cool' girlfriends and... well... that's all folks.

I can't believe that this is all there is, but apparently so.

What a waste of a couple of hundred euro.

Rubbish in The Independent.

There's an artical in The Independent today Cutbacks leave beaches looking like rubbish tips The article begins "THE full cost of council cutbacks was laid bare yesterday as tonnes of rubbish was left uncollected on some of the country's most popular beaches."

Am I missing something here? Surely that should read People leave beaches looking like rubbish tips
